Blog Post 5

At the beginning of this course, you were asked to assess your present strengths and weaknesses in technology. Has your assessment changed? If so, how?

My weaknesses have changed significantly. I said that half of what I struggled with was that I had not thought of how to apply the various online tools to education. One advantage of this course is that it taught me a new way of thinking about the available technology. That line of thinking is one that I intend to cultivate and expound on. I intend to apply what I learned in this course by having my students use the online tools and technology in my classroom. This makes the learning more relevant and dare I say almost fun for them.

My other significant weakness is a lack of information about technology. I remedied this temporarily in this class by learning about the latest and greatest technology. I intend to keep up with this by scanning various journals and websites such as the “Unquiet Librarian.” I always say that as a teacher I’m not super creative. I rarely have original ideas. I usually look at someone else’s idea and refine it for my use. I believe that concept applies here. I may not have the original idea about how to incorporate various types of technology in my classroom, but I have every intention of looking at other’s ideas, refining it, and using it in my classroom.

My strengths haven’t changed except I have added to them by understanding more about the tools that are available to me to be able to incorporate and use.
